Stanley cycle route week-long clean up begins

Volunteers are to spend a week sprucing up a County Durham cycle path.

Local schoolchildren will also take part in the blitz of the Sustran track in Stanley, which is being organised by Durham County Council.

The work will include removing graffiti, mending broken fences, painting and cutting back grass.

The clear-up begins on Monday and a county council spokesman said the aim was to get locals to "take pride" in their area.
