A 44-year-old shop assistant was knocked unconscious during a raid at a Durham University campus shop.
The woman was opening up the shop at Josephine Butler College, in South Road, at 08:45 BST when she was attacked from behind.
Durham Police said the woman had to receive medical treatment at the scene.
It was later discovered that an amount of cash had been taken from the shop. Police are appealing for witnesses.
