Ushaw Moor head-on crash kills man

A 72-year-old man has died a day after being involved in a three-car crash.

Brian Pattinson was driving a Peugeot 205 along Broom Lane in Ushaw Moor, County Durham, when he was involved in a head-on crash with a VW Bora.

Police said the Bora had just collided with a Seat Leon when it crashed head-on into the Peugeot, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Mr Pattinson, from Oswald Court, Durham, was airlifted to hospital in Newcastle, but died in the early hours.

The driver of the Bora, a 35-year-old man, suffered a broken ankle.

The 43-year-old male driver of the Seat Leon, who was from Langley Park, County Durham, was uninjured.

The road was closed for two hours and police are appealing for witnesses.
