Warning over Salisbury copper cable theft

Thieves have risked death or serious injury by stealing copper cables from electricity substations in Wiltshire.

A police spokesman said fencing lights and CCTV cameras were damaged at the substation on Western Way in Salisbury before the theft on 2 March.

Later that afternoon, copper earthing straps were stolen from a building on Hatch Lane in the city.

A police spokeswoman asked people to report any suspicious activity near substations.

"It's not being too dramatic to say that there is a high possibility that you could be killed or seriously injured if you enter one of these sites," she said.
