Salisbury Guildhall opens after £1.2m refit

The Salisbury Guildhall has reopened after a year of restoration work.

The building, which underwent a £1.2m refit, will be the new home of the city council which aims to hire it out for events such as weddings.

Council business manager Claire Burden said their aim was to generate enough income to maintain itself and be able to hold large free events.

"It has always been the case that this has to be a commercial building as well," she said.

The Grade II listed building was built in 1795.
