Man charged after carrying axe in Swindon town centre

A 44-year-old man has been charged after he was arrested for walking through the streets of Swindon carrying an axe.

A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said officers were called to reports of the man in the town centre on Tuesday.

John Paul Hunter, of Eastleaze, Swindon, is charged with possession of an offensive weapon and assaulting a police officer.

Mr Hunter is due to appear before Swindon Magistrates' Court on 3 June.

He was released on bail until then.
