Bath A36 lorry ban plan approved

A trial banning heavy lorries passing through part of Bath has been approved.

Under the plans vehicles weighing more than 18 tonnes will be prohibited from using part of the A36 between Bathwick Street and Beckford Road.

Bath and North East Somerset Council said the road was being used as a rat-run between the M4 and the south coast and proposed the 18-month trial.

A consultation into the plan will now begin following the approval by the Bradford-on-Avon area board.

Previously Wiltshire Council said it feared the ban would cause lorries to leave the M4 at junction 17 at Chippenham instead, impacting the A363 through Bradford-on-Avon and the B3105.
