Wiltshire Council offers free parking in Christmas run-up

An hour's free parking will be offered to shoppers in Wiltshire the week before Christmas, the council says.

Between 19 December and Christmas Eve, motorists paying to park in any council-run car park in the county will get an extra hour free.

They will need to display a special token given away with the next edition of the Wiltshire Council magazine.

Cabinet member Dick Tonge said the move would be a "welcome boost" for shoppers in the run-up to Christmas.

The council magazine Your Wiltshire, which will contain the free parking token, will be sent out to households in the county in November.

Councillors also plan to offer service permits to charity shops whose volunteers need to load and unload vehicles. Workers who support vulnerable people will also receive permits.
