Driving tests return to Trowbridge and Westbury

Driving tests have returned to west Wiltshire for the first time since the Trowbridge test centre closed in 2008.

The closure meant learner drivers in the area had to travel to Chippenham or Salisbury to take their tests.

A protest campaign by local driving instructors led to the government's decision to return tests to the area.

Two new part-time centres have opened up - at Longfield Community Centre in Trowbridge and the Leighton Recreation Centre in Westbury.

Gary Fossey, of the Shamrock Driving School in Trowbridge, led the protest campaign and said there was already a nine-week waiting list.

He added: "Hopefully, if that continues we might see more examiners or even possibly a more permanent site."
