CCTV is to be introduced in a Wiltshire town centre after £8,000 of funding was agreed.

The money from Melksham Town Council will be used towards creating a two-camera system.

If the project receives extra support from third parties such as the police or local businesses, it may be extended to a three or four-camera system.

Melksham Area Board said the project had cross-party support and would improve town safety and confidence.

The project will be managed by the Melksham Area Community Safety Group and the camera contract will now go out to tender.
