Black Horse Contractors calls in administrators

A Wiltshire-based groundworks and civil engineering contractor has called in administrators.

Black Horse Contractors has its head offices in Cricklade and depots in Rogiet, south Wales, and Wellington, Somerset.

Administrators from the Bristol office of the firm Begbies Traynor are to be appointed.

Approximately 100 staff have already been made redundant in Cricklade, along with 30 in Rogiet and 50 in Wellington.

The remaining 40 staff are spread over the three sites but are predominantly based in Cricklade.

They are to be made redundant at the year end, the Begbies Traynor spokesman said.

Begbies Traynor partner Simon Haskew attributed the situation to "tightening economic conditions".

At its peak, the company had a turnover of about £25m, Begbies Traynor said.
