Incendiary device found on Salisbury Plain made safe

An incendiary device discovered in the village of Chitterne on Salisbury Plain has been safely removed.

Wiltshire Police, the fire service and the Army, were called in after a contractor unearthed the military ordnance on Tuesday afternoon.

Military experts made the device safe by venting phosphorus from it, police said.

Surrounding roads were closed to traffic while the operation was carried out.
