County community scheme set to begin

A project aimed at getting children involved in the community is to begin in Wiltshire next month.

The Junior Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) scheme has been set up by Wiltshire Police, Amesbury Town Council and housing group Radian.

The project is intended to give children a sense of pride in their neighbourhood by carrying out tasks which will benefit other residents.

Children aged 10 to 15 will take part in the scheme which begins on 5 May.

The project came about after local residents were asked what would improve their community in a Department for Communities and Local Government survey.

"Activities for teenagers" was the second highest answer, and as a result, the junior PCSO scheme was devised.
