A juvenile macaque monkey has escaped from Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, prompting a search by staff and police.

Officers were called to Longleat Estate at about 14:00 BST on Thursday after the creature was reported missing.

Residents living nearby have been warned to keep their windows and doors closed and not to approach the animal, which is the size of a domestic cat.

The monkey is a member of the resident colony of rhesus macaques at the safari park near Warminster.
