Man injured when crane hits power cable in Trowbridge

An industrial worker has been airlifted to hospital after a crane hit a power cable in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

The incident happened at about 08:55 GMT at the site of the new Trowbridge Rugby Club in the Paxcroft area.

The man in his thirties suffered a cardiac arrest and was airlifted to Bath's Royal United Hospital at 09:01 GMT, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, which is based nearby, said.

Wiltshire Police said the man's family have been informed.

A Wiltshire Air Ambulance spokesman said the man was not operating the crane, but was thought to be helping to guide it as it lifted metal girders into place.

He said: "The man was alongside the crane and touching it when it hit the overhead electrical cables."
