Swindon street attack: Man appears in court

A man has appeared in court after another man was left with critical head injuries in a Swindon street.

Abuzer Erdem, 27, from St Austell Way in the town, is charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Mr Erdem appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court earlier.

A 25-year-old man was also arrested and bailed after the incident, which took place in the Old Town area in the early hours of Monday.

The 27-year-old injured man was discovered outside the Kings Arms Hotel in Wood Street.

He is being treated at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and remains in a critical condition.

Wiltshire Police said following a "significant brain operation", he remained in a critical condition.

Mr Erdem has been released on bail and is due to appear at Swindon Crown Court on 19 April.
