Chippenham runner hit by car has 'life-threatening' injuries

A runner who was hit by a car in Chippenham suffered potentially life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers said the woman, aged 20 and from the town, was crossing the road at the Bridge Centre roundabout when she was hit by a silver Citroen C1.

They had initially appealed for help identifying her, but said her family had now been informed.

Roads in the area were closed for four hours while police carried out an investigation at the scene.

The woman was taken to Frenchay hospital, in Bristol, by air ambulance. The driver of the car was not hurt.

Wiltshire Police said they were still appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at 10:20 GMT, to come forward.
