Wiltshire PCC to fund street sex outreach worker

Wiltshire's police and crime commissioner (PCC) is to fund an outreach worker to tackle the illegal sex trade.

The Nelson Trust charity is to be awarded almost £35,000 for the full-time post from PCC Angus Macpherson's £1m Innovation Fund.

The role will focus on the red light district in Manchester Road in Swindon.

The Trust said sex workers there are "the most vulnerable" and "at risk of rape, trafficking and health problems".

The issue of kerb crawling and "anti-social behaviours which threatened local residents and businesses" will also be addressed through the scheme.

Some 20 or 30 women will be provided with support with the goal being to move women away from sex work.
