Engineering firm Dyson has confirmed plans to double the size of its science and research centre in Wiltshire.

The company is applying for planning permission to build a £250m research and development campus next to its headquarters in Malmesbury.

The expansion, expected to be the largest in the firm's 20-year history, would create 3,000 new science and engineering jobs, it said.

If approved, the first new research centre would be open in early 2016.

The new technology campus includes research and development laboratories, a sports centre, cafe and 600-space car park.

If approved, the company said the new building would bring 3,000 new jobs to the town with 1,000 new jobs by 2016.

The company currently employs around 1,000 engineers at its Malmesbury site.
