St John the Baptist Church in Ebbesbourne Wake wins grant
A medieval church in Wiltshire which needs to save its "falling down" Norman tower has been awarded a lottery grant.
St John the Baptist Church in Ebbesbourne Wake was given £70,700 by the National Lottery towards its £180,000 restoration appeal.
Richard Lanyon, from the church, said they were "lucky" as they had also received a small grant from the the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust.
He said they hoped to start the main restoration work later this year.
Mr Lanyon said the community had also raised £80,000 towards the appeal.
He said villagers had "all pulled together on this".
"The responsibility for maintaining this building ultimately falls on the community because there is very little help out there," he said.
The work to renovate and repair the church includes saving the tower, internal fabric restoration and renewing the wiring.
