Plymouth man arrested over Swindon 1987 rape case

Cold case investigators have arrested a 60-year-old man from Plymouth in connection with a rape attack on a teenage girl in Swindon in 1987.

Police said advances in forensic science testing meant new evidence was available to detectives.

The suspect is being held in custody in Swindon on suspicion of rape, indecent assault and false imprisonment.

Det Insp Mark Power, from Wiltshire Police, said the woman was being given specialist support by officers.

"The team have reviewed the case and new evidence has been discovered through the use of modern forensic methods.

"These methods were not available to officers 30 years ago but advances in technology have now enabled us to take this case forward."
