Six war memorials are to be granted Grade II-listed status as part of the government's pledge to mark the centenary of World War One.

Historic England has pledged to protect 2,500 memorials across the UK by 2018.

The six are in Donhead St Mary, Brinkworth, Collingbourne Kingston, West Dean, Alvediston and Chilmark.

Roger Bowdler, from Historic England, said the memorials would be placed on the National Heritage List to "tell the story of sacrifice and struggle".
