Two arrested in Skipton over 'gun' reports

Armed police have arrested two men and seized four weapons after an incident in North Yorkshire.

The men, aged 50 and 22, were arrested at a house in The Oval, Skipton, shortly after midnight.

Police had been investigating reports that a man was seen carrying a pistol in the front garden.

Three firearms were also seized from a house. Subsequent checks revealed they were all replicas.

No shots fired

Police want to trace a man who made a 999 call from a nearby public pay phone as he may be a "vital" witness.

No shots were fired and nobody was injured during the incident, North Yorkshire Police said.

The 50-year-old man who was arrested has been released on bail.

The 22-year-old man who was arrested has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said enquiries were continuing.
