Cyclist dies after Bolton Abbey incident

Police are investigating the death of an elderly cyclist who was injured at a Yorkshire Dales beauty spot.

The 79-year-old man, from Bramhope in Leeds, was found on Thursday near the Cavendish Pavilion at Bolton Abbey on the B6160 Burnsall Road.

He had suffered severe head and chest injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he died on Friday.

Police said it was not yet known how the man, who has not been formally identified, had sustained his injuries.

Officers believe he had cycled from his home in Leeds to the Bolton Abbey Estate on a blue Pinarello racing bike.

North Yorkshire Police would like to speak to the drivers of several vehicles which stopped at the scene of the incident or anyone who saw the man cycling around Bolton Abbey estate on Thursday afternoon.
