Bedale sex attacks investigated by police

A teenage girl and a young woman have suffered serious sexual assaults in the Yorkshire Dales market town of Bedale in the past month, police have said.

The girl, who is in her early teens, is believed to have been attacked near the leisure centre on 24 January.

The second incident in the early hours of 18 February involved a woman in her early 20s near the Wynd.

Police said it was understandable if local people felt alarmed but said the attacks were not thought to be linked.

Det Insp Keith Ruff, of Hambleton & Richmondshire CID, said: "Both victims are receiving support from the police as inquiries continue to establish and fully assess the full circumstances surrounding the incidents.

"Every effort is being made by North Yorkshire Police to investigate the complaints and also provide a visible reassurance in the local community to reduce any concerns or fears."
