Woman and mother rescued from Whitby landslip mud

Two people have been rescued from soft mud in North Yorkshire after a landslip.

Coastguards received a 999 call on Saturday afternoon from a woman whose mother became stuck after venturing on to the mud between Whitby and Sandsend.

As the daughter tried to free her mother she too got into difficulty, a Humber Coastguard spokesman said.

Visitors to the area have been warned to take care amid fears that further wet weather could bring down more soil.

The coastguard spokesman said they also received a report of another family who had difficulties crossing the mud.

An assessment of the landslip is to be carried out.
