Police have asked the public to help them catch a thief who has been on the run for more than three years after stealing antiques in North Yorkshire.

Michael Edward Kenny, 50, from London, was sentenced to eight years in jail at York Crown Court in November 2007.

He was found guilty in his absence of stealing antiques, paintings and jewellery from six houses in Malton, Great Broughton and York.

Police said the stolen items were valued at several thousand pounds.

A warrant was issued by the court in November 2007 when Kenny failed to turn up for his trial.

Officers believe he may have visited the North East in the past few months and are appealing to any members of the public who may have seen him or know of his whereabouts to get in touch.
