North Yorkshire Police target uninsured vehicles
Police in a part of North Yorkshire are targeting vehicles used for commercial purposes that may be on the roads without insurance.
Officers in the Selby area said the purge comes on top of an initiative to cut road crime generally.
Insp Richard Abbott said any vehicle that "appeared to be used for business purposes" would be stopped.
He said there were an "alarming number" of uninsured commercial vehicles on the roads.
Insp Abbott said: "If the van does not have the correct insurance it may be seized and the driver summonsed to court.
"The reason we are now targeting commercial vehicles is that we have seen an alarming number of commercial vehicles on the district's roads who don't have the proper insurance, which would have serious consequences if they collide with an innocent member of the public."
