Choirgirl Isabel Suckling up for Classical Brit Award
York Minster chorister Isabel Suckling has been nominated for a coveted Classical Brit award.
The 13-year-old soprano, whose debut album recently reached number three in the classical charts, is the youngest person ever to be shortlisted.
She is up against her mentor Aled Jones as well as a choir of French nuns, the RAF's Central Band and six others for the Classic FM Album of the Year prize.
The winner, voted for by the station's listeners, will be announced on 12 May.
Isabel, who has been a choirgirl at York Minster since 2006, was signed by Decca last September.
The record label said she was the first choirgirl to sign a major deal.
At the time, she described the deal as, "really exciting. It hasn't quite sunk in but it is an amazing opportunity".
