Humber export boom benefits local economy

Exports from the Yorkshire and Humber region are booming, according to Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce.

Figures show exports totalled £14bn last year, a 20% increase on 2009. The region enjoyed a rate of export growth twice that of south-east England.

Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Richard Kendall said "exports are worth a huge amount to our local economy".

"We've got the manufacturing companies that are looking to export goods and find new markets," he said.

"The opportunities are out there around the world, we just need to make sure we grasp them," Mr Kendall added.

He credited the "mix of companies" in the region for the bumper growth.
