A murder investigation has been started after the death of a 17-year-old boy in North Yorkshire.

Police said the victim was seriously assaulted outside College Pizzas in Stokesley High Street, Stokesley, at about 0005 BST.

He suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital where he died.

Two 17-year-old boys from Guisborough and a 17-year-old girl and 25-year-old man from Middlesbrough have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police said they had seized a charcoal-coloured Volkswagen Polo, which is believed to be connected to the incident.

Det Supt Lewis Raw, of North Yorkshire Police, appealed for anyone who saw the vehicle in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.

He added: "I would also appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident itself to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information."
