Man dies, four hurt in Sherburn-in-Elmet head-on crash

A man died and four people, including a seven-year-old boy, were injured in a head-on crash in North Yorkshire.

A Volkswagen Golf and a Honda CRV collided on the B1222 Bishopdyke Road, near Sherburn-in-Elmet, at 17:45 BST on Friday.

The Golf driver, a 52-year-old local man, died at the scene. The boy, his passenger, is in a stable condition at Leeds General Infirmary.

Three men who were in the Honda were taken to hospitals in Leeds and York.

One was discharged overnight while the other two, including the driver, are said to be in a "poorly but stable" condition.

Police have urged witnesses or anyone who saw the vehicles before the crash to come forward.

Sgt Sean Grey, said: "It is vital to our investigation that anyone with any information who has not already spoken to the police contacts us as soon as possible."

The road was closed for more than four hours while police examined the scene.
