Arsonists set alight seven vehicles in York
Detectives are searching for witnesses after seven vehicles were set alight in North Yorkshire.
Emergency services were called to the scene in the Layerthorpe area of York at around 01:50 BST on Monday.
Some residents reported hearing explosions in the area, which police believe were the diesel tanks catching fire.
Officers are treating the incidents as suspicious and have appealed for witnesses.
Six vans belonging to Carillion Energy Services were set alight on the Ebor Industrial Estate, in Hallfield Road, with four of the vans being completely destroyed.
A Vauxhall Corsa was also set alight on Mansfield Street.
Det Con Sinead McConigley said: "We believe that these fires were a deliberate act and are appealing for the public to help us identify who is responsible.
"Arson is a serious crime which can be extremely dangerous. Fortunately, nobody was hurt on this occasion but fires can be lethal and incidents like these cannot be tolerated."
