North Yorkshire Police camera films 1,805 offences

Almost 2,000 motorists and bikers have been caught breaking the speed limit in one month by North Yorkshire Police's new mobile camera.

Officers said 37 of the 1,805 captured on film had been travelling at "excessive speed".

But the majority of those travelling over the speed limit, 1,387 drivers and riders, were offered speed awareness courses instead of an endorsement.

Officers said they were disappointed so many drivers were speeding.

North Yorkshire Police said the camera technology in the van could detect the speed of approaching and receding traffic from up to 1,000 metres away and captured 360 degree images of the location.

Insp Brown said the camera was "particularly effective at detecting motorcycles" and produced high-quality images of vehicles and the riders or drivers.
