A165: £40k earth works to lower road noise in Scarborough

A £40,000 earth embankment is to be built in Scarborough to reduce noise pollution from a new road.

Work will begin in September on the mound which will run alongside the A165 in the Sea View area of the town.

North Yorkshire County Council said traffic would not be "unduly disrupted" but a 30mph speed limit and a ban on overtaking would be in place.

The work is expected to take three weeks and a landscaping programme is due to be carried out in the autumn.

Councillor Penny Marsden said: "I am delighted that this long-awaited bund is now proceeding.

"The bund will help reduce noise pollution and also afford a measure of screening of the new road from local people."
