Chickens killed as lorry overturns on A64 near York

A road near York was closed for a number of hours after a car became trapped under a lorry containing live chickens.

A vet and the RSPCA were called to the scene, on the A64, and dead and live chickens were removed from the road by the Environment Agency.

North Yorkshire Police said the lorry fell on its side at the Hopgrove roundabout at about 11:40 BST.

The lorry driver and two women in the car suffered minor injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
