Harrogate and Knaresborough roadworks to begin

A £2m programme of roadworks to repair damage caused by severe weather last winter will get under way in North Yorkshire later.

North Yorkshire County Council said a total of 13 roads in Knaresborough and Harrogate would be re-surfaced in an "extensive" roadworks scheme.

The council described the repair programme as a "major undertaking".

The roadworks programme is expected to be completed by the start of February 2012.

North Yorkshire County Council said highways officers were working closely with Harrogate Borough Council, the Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and bus and taxi companies to avoid delays.

Gareth Dadd, executive member for highways, said: "Our contractors will do everything possible to minimise disruption for motorists, residents and local businesses, and to complete the work in good time."
