Dog walker killed in A64 accident is named by police

A man who was killed while walking his dog across a busy dual carriageway has been named by police.

Sixty-year-old Leslie Hughes was struck by several vehicles while trying to cross the eastbound A64 at Bilbrough, near York, on 3 December.

Mr Hughes, from Steeton near Tadcaster, died at the scene from his injuries. His dog was also killed.

An inquest into his death, which police have described as a "tragic" accident, has been opened and adjourned.

North Yorkshire police are appealing for anyone who saw the accident to contact them.
