Man arrested in Hellifield after homes evacuated
A 30-year-old man has been arrested after an incident in a North Yorkshire village that led to the evacuation of a dozen homes overnight.
Police evacuated the East View area of Hellifield just before midnight on Wednesday after reports a man was threatening to harm himself.
Villagers spent the night at a school and the area was cordoned off.
The nearby A65, which was earlier closed, has since reopened. No-one was injured in the incident.
The man came out of the property voluntarily at about 08:00 GMT, North Yorkshire Police said.
People have now returned to their homes.
The arrested man was undergoing checks at Airedale General Hospital, police said.
Ch Supt Ali Higgins said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local residents who needed to be evacuated for their support and co-operation."
