Woman killed and driver arrested over North Yorkshire crash

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after his car overturned in North Yorkshire killing a 23-year-old female passenger.

North Yorkshire Police said the couple were travelling between Whitby and Pickering on the A169 when the driver lost control of the car.

The vehicle overturned before resting on its side in a field at Brocka Beck, near Fylingdales Moor.

The accident took place shortly after 15:00 GMT on Sunday.

The 23-year-old woman, from Doncaster, was taken by air ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where she was pronounced dead.

The driver, also from Doncaster, sustained minor injuries.

North Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses.
