Police are continuing to question a man after a teenager in a tent was run over by a van.

The victim, 16, is said to be in a serious but stable condition after the incident in a field near the River Ouse in Barlby, Selby, on Sunday.

His injuries include a broken arm and bruising to his body.

Police said the boy was part of a group of teenagers who were camping in the field. A 24-year-old local man was arrested and remains in police custody.

North Yorkshire Police said the incident happened after a man had threatened to mow down the teenagers' tent.

Most of the group escaped and hid but one boy remained inside the tent and was run over.

Det Ch Insp Heather Pearson said the incident was "disturbing" and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
