Woman rescued from swollen River Ouse in centre of York

A woman who went into the swollen River Ouse in York and her would-be rescuer were pulled to safety by fire and rescue crews, on Saturday.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the woman eventually ended up clinging to a pontoon near Skeldergate Bridge.

A man from a nearby pub went to her aid wearing waders.

Rescuers from York Fire Station and Acomb station used a boat to throw them safety lines and a wading pole to bring them back to safety.
