Three North Yorkshire car flood victims rescued

Three people had to be rescued from two cars after their drivers ignored flood warning signs, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Fire crews were called to Butterwick shortly after 18:30 GMT on Wednesday to rescue a woman in her 60s and another in her 80s from a car in deep water.

Rescuers had to use a boat to reach the women who were both uninjured.

A woman was later rescued unhurt from a car trapped in deep flood water at York Bridge Road, Tollerton, at 20:25 GMT.

The car's other occupant, a man, had already managed to reach dry land, the fire service said.

Both drivers had passed signs warning of flood water on the road ahead, the fire service said.
