Bomb disposal experts explode container in Scarborough
Army bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion after an "unidentified container" washed up on a beach in Scarborough.
An area near to the town's Spa Complex was cordoned off after the item was found at about 14:00 BST.
The controlled explosion was completed by about 19:00 by trained specialists.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said an army bomb disposal team decided destroying the container unit was the "safest course of action".
He said: "The cordon remained in place while a precautionary inspection of the area was completed and a small hole created by the explosion was made safe by Scarborough Borough Council."
