Cyclist dies in North Yorkshire after hitting tree

A cyclist has died after hitting a tree on a steep hill in North Yorkshire, according to police.

North Yorkshire Police said the accident happened on Wednesday on the B6265, known locally as Greenhow Hill.

The man was cycling down the hill towards the village of Pateley Bridge when he hit the tree, suffering "serious injuries".

The Great North Air Ambulance attended the accident but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said no other vehicles were involved and urged anyone who was on the hill at around the time of the accident to contact them.
