A severely flood-damaged bridge is closed to allow repair work to start.

The bridge in Scorton, near Richmond, North Yorkshire was damaged in last autumn's floods and replaced with a temporary structure.

The new bridge will now be moved to a temporary road beside the original bridge to allow for reconstruction.

It will not be possible to cross the river on Friday until 19:00 BST but diversions will be in place.

The reconstruction work is due to finish by the end of August, North Yorkshire County Council said.

The cost of repairs to the bridge was previously estimated at £600,000, according to the council.
