River rescue for couple stranded in Grosmont ford

A man and woman have been rescued from a truck that became stuck while trying to cross a swollen beck.

The couple, believed to be in their 60s, were trapped after attempting to drive through a ford in Grosmont, near Whitby, at about 11:15 GMT.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the truck had "lost traction due to the speed of the flowing water and left the crossing area".

A fire service spokesman said the couple were rescued unharmed.
