A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was punched to the ground in the garden of a Harrogate pub, police have said.

The local man, in his 50s, received head injuries in the attack at the back of the Winter Gardens pub on Parliament Street at about 19.30 GMT on Saturday.

A 43-year-old man from York was also assaulted and suffered facial injuries.

The attacker is described as white, in his mid-40s with a medium build, a bald head and short hair around the sides.

He was wearing a dark grey, long-sleeved jumper.

The pub is known locally as Wetherspoons Royal Baths.
