Man rescued from York's River Ouse by firefighters

A man was rescued by firefighters after "getting into difficulty" in the the River Ouse in York.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a man in the water at about 16:40 GMT on Saturday.

Firefighters said he was rescued "in the nick of time" by the water rescue boat near Lendal Bridge.

He was suffering from hypothermia and given first aid by paramedics. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

It is unclear how the man came to be in the water.
