Girl attacked by man in York while leaving school

A 15-year-old girl was attacked by a man as she was leaving her school in York.

The girl fought back and bit her attacker on the hand, said police.

The attack happened at 16:00 GMT at the Joseph Rowntree School on Haxby Road. People are being asked to report "suspicious activity".

Police said the girl was uninjured, but was left shaken. They said it was a frightening incident and officers were providing support.

The suspect is described as white, aged in his mid to late 20s, of thin build with dark circles under his eyes.

'Suspicious people'

He was wearing a dark, hooded top with yellow writing on the front and with the hood pulled up, dark trousers with white stripes up to the knees and dirty white trainers.

Insp Steve Breen said: "This was a frightening incident for the victim and we are providing specialist support to her.

"She has provided a good description of the attacker and I urge anyone who recognises him from this description to contact North Yorkshire Police.

"Reassurance patrols will continue in the area and we are asking pupils, parents and local people to be vigilant and report any suspicious people or activity to the police."
